Kerala Economic Association (KEA) is a professional organisation that endeavours to provide a common platform for students, researchers, teachers, administrators, industrialists and others who are interested in the disciplinary domain of economics in general and the dynamics of the regional economy of Kerala in particular. Registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 in 2013 on 30th October 2013, KEA strives to emerge as a policy think-tank on Kerala’s economic development. It aims to undertake various programmes to enhance the quality of teaching and research in economics especially in centres of higher learning in the state of Kerala as well. As such, the Association attempts to organise curriculum workshops and training programmes for improving the capability and skill sets of researchers and teachers.
The specific objectives of the KEA are:
- (1) To provide a common forum for teahers, researchérs, administers, industrialists and other stake holders from the state of Kerala who are interested in the subject of Economics.
- (2) To initiate appropriate mcasures to improve the quality and content of teaching and research in Economics.
- (3) To organize conferences, seminars and symposia witha view to providea comimon platfornm for its members to exchange ideas.
- (4) To promote research on different aspects of the developmental spectrum of the state of Kerala.
- (5) To encourage publications that would be relevant to the teaching of and research in Economics.
In order to live up to the goals set and the expectations generated, the executive committee of KEA held on 1st April 2023 has decided to strengthen its organisational structure by establishing four Regional Chapters for reaching out to all persons and various institutions that are interested in the activities of KEA in the state of Kerala. The four regional chapters are Thiruvananthapuram (for the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha), Ernakulam (for the districts of Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and Thrissur), Kozhikode (for the districts of Kozhikode, Malappuram and Palakkad) and Kannur (for the districts of Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod).
