Kerala Economic Association (KEA) is a professional organisation that endeavours to provide a common platform for students, researchers, teachers, administrators, industrialists and others who are interested in the disciplinary domain of economics in general and the dynamics of the regional economy of Kerala in particular. Registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 in 2013, KEA has been able to undertake several programmes to enhance the quality of teaching and research in economics in the state under the patronage of Prof MA Oommen. The Association has also been striving to emerge as a policy think-tank on Kerala’s economic development.

As the economic scenario all over the world including Kerala is in a state of flux, the challenges encountering the discipline of economics and policy makers are enormous as well as interesting. In view of the above, the Executive Committee of the KEA has drawn up a plan of action for the next two years, which includes symposia and special lectures on global and national developments, and regional and state level economic conferences focussing on the Kerala economy. The Association will also actively involve and contribute to the initiatives undertaken by various agencies towards improving teaching and research in economics in the state. It also plans to organise curriculum workshops and training programmes for improving the capability and skill sets of researchers and teachers.

In order to live up to the goals set and the expectations generated, the KEA needs to strengthen its organisational structure. We have successfully established four Regional Chapters (Kannur, Kozhikode, Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram). Further, the Executive Committee in its meeting held on 12th June 2023 decided to organise the annual membership campaign of the KEA for the year 2023 during the period between 12th June and 31st August. The goal is to reach all those who are eligible for the KEA membership.
